SSx0xx: Titanium Sample Substrates
Many samples are too small or delicate to bridge the gap between two sample plates. For these samples, an alternative method is to glue them to a substrate and apply strain to the substrate. These product page describes a range of titanium substrates adapted to work with different stress/strain devices.
Accessory Overview
- Permits small, thin, fragile samples to be strained if there is no other way to strain them.
- Titanium substrates have the same thermal expansion coefficient as the strain cell
- Two types: glue-in and screw-in. Screw-ins are more convenient (no glue to cure) but glue-ins may reach higher strains.
- Formulated for different strain cells. CS100/CS110s, CS120/CS130, FC100s and UC200s each have a specifically designed carrier.
- Any substrate can be purchased with an unanodised or anodised finish. The anodisation offers an extra layer of electrical insulation between the substrate and the sample, but the layer is fragile, may have pin-holes and will wear away with repeated use.
