CS200T: a transmission-mode uniaxial strain cell
The CS200T, can apply large uniaxial strains to samples while probing the sample transmission-mode, diffraction and scattering techniques, both lab-based, and in synchrotrons or other beam lines. The device is designed to fit inside a 2-inch bore and is hence compatible with a wide range of commercial and custom cryostats and vacuum chambers.

Transmission and diffraction measurements
To get a clean signal, it is required that the beam does not pass through the metal of the device, only travelling through the sample. The CS200T is specially developed to have a large, 90° access cone in the back of the cell to allow the beams to travel unhindered. Although this is a fairly new device, the design is closely based on the technology that Kim et al. published in Science 362, 1040, (2018).
For best results we recommend that customers use the cells with the following equipment;
- A Razorbill Instruments RP100 power supply is compatible with the CS200T as well as our other range of stres and strain cells. This power supply can supply low-noise four quadrant, sink/source voltages of ±200V.
- Use of the feedback sensor requires the detection of an approximately 3 pF capacitance. A high quality, low-cost option is the Keysight E4980AL (20 Hz to 300 kHz).
- Suitable wiring and feedthroughs into the cryostat or vacuum chamber. The FC100 requires 4x high voltage lines to drive the cell and 2x coax cables for the sensor. Razorbill Instruments can provide kits for adding suitable cabling and feedthroughs to a range of commercial cryostats. Please contact us for more information.
