Raised flexure plate (RFP)
For experiments requiring very good access to the sample, for example to be able to get a SPM head or a low working distance optic to the sample it is sometimes desirable to raise the sample so that it protrudes from the top of the strain cell. Small samples, and thin-film samples suspended over cleaved silicon according to the recipe developed at the University of Washington benefit having a single sample plate with two halves linked by flexures. For this purpose, raised sample plates (RFPs) are used. It combines the advantages of the flexure sample plates (FSPs) and raised sample plates (RSPs).
Accessory Overview
- Raised sample plates provide access for SPM or low working distance optics
- Sample is proud of top surface of device
- Counterbored screws do not conflict with probe or optics
- Robust flexure guidance
- 300 um slot suitable for small samples or Washington method for straining 2D materials.

- Samples can be glued directly to the top of the RFP, without top sample plates.
- This allows excellent access to the sample.
- If using stiff samples consult figures 1-4 of the CS1x0 datasheet to determine compatibility, but when calculating the stiffness of your sample include the stiffness of the RFP, which is 3.2 N/um, and would be in series with the sample.
- Although they will likely experience some off-axis stresses, samples may survive being loaded and unloaded when mounted on the RFP.
